Member Care (also called Missionary Care) is any action taken to care for and develop missionary or aid staff, enhancing their morale and skills, and strengthening their resiliency. This action can be taken by a Missionary Care Provider, the mission/aid agency or their leader(s), trainer, sending church, counsellor, colleague or even the missionary him- or herself.
Missionary Care helps missionary staff to remain in missions and to finish well. It entails care and development on the spiritual, physical, emotional, relational, career and organisational levels. It starts before the missionary joins the agency and continues until after retirement.
Missionary Care is provided by the sending church, training institutions, agency, supporters, friends and family of the mission or aid worker. It includes Master Care and self-care, and is best provided in a pro-active or preventative manner.
